A little care keeps colours bright and embroidery neat for many seasons. Always check the care label first. These are general tips for each fabric.
Before the first wash
Wash printed and dark pieces on their own the first time, because some dye can come out. Turn embroidered shirts inside out.
Lawn and silk lawn
- Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, or by hand.
- Dry in the shade. Strong sun fades prints.
- Iron on the reverse while slightly damp.
Crepe
- Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not wring.
- Hang to dry, or dry flat to keep its shape.
- Crepe creases very little. Use a low iron if needed.
Khaddar
- Wash in cold or lukewarm water, inside out, to protect embroidery.
- Squeeze gently. Do not twist.
- Iron on the reverse on a medium setting.
Raw silk, organza and net
- Dry cleaning is the safest choice for embroidered raw silk and for organza and net dupattas.
- If a small mark needs attention, dab it gently with cold water. Do not rub.
- Iron on the reverse on a low setting, with a cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Storing your suits
- Store festive pieces in a cotton bag, not plastic, so the fabric can breathe.
- Fold embroidered shirts with tissue paper between the folds.
- Keep them away from direct sunlight.
